Project: Stories of Gustafsberg

Gustafsberg in Uddevalla has a rich history that deserves to be brought to light.
To spark visitors’ curiosity and interest, and to attract more visitors, the Gustafsberg – Stories of Gustafsberg project takes a comprehensive approach to communicating the character and history of the site more clearly.

The project was made possible when Leader Sodra Bohuslan awarded SEK 725,304 to develop information about Gustafsberg’s multifaceted history and promote the site through stories and signs.
The project owner is Destination Uddevalla, with the Gustafsberg Foundation and Uddevalla Municipality as project partners.

An extension of the project was approved to restore old paths and add new sections, once again allowing visitors to take invigorating walks in accordance with the prescription of Dr Marin, the resort’s first spa physician in 1810.
Sweden’s first boarding school was founded here at the end of the 18th century. The schoolboys played in a cave that has now been made accessible so that families today can enjoy adventures of their own.

Information signs and the “Around the World” walking trail

Throughout the area you will find information signs where you can discover the stories of Gustafsberg.
If you are visiting the site, the information board and map show you where to find them.

The website texts are intended for curious visitors who want to learn more, so they include additional information and images. Click the column on the left when using a computer.

The organisations and contributors who worked on the signs and their design are Destination Uddevalla, the Gustafsberg Foundation, Uddevalla Municipality, Bohuslan Museum, Linn Greaker Design and Vesslerna.

Contributors to the “Around the World” walking trail were Hermanssons Stangsel och Inhagnad, Ostrabo Upper Secondary School for pupils with intellectual disabilities, and Linn Greaker Design.
