The Blue and White Shield at Gustafsberg

The County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland works to protect important parts of the county’s cultural heritage. It selects special sites to display a blue and white sign, an international protective emblem indicating that the site is important and must be protected. Gustafsberg is one such area of significant cultural value that is to be protected.

Sweden has been a party to the Hague Convention since 1985. The Convention concerns the protection of cultural sites and property, such as historic buildings, works of art and archives, particularly during armed conflict. Countries that have signed the Convention undertake not to use these places in ways that could damage them, and they must not attack them during war.

When a site is to be marked with the blue and white sign, the County Administrative Board registers it and puts up signs bearing the blue and white shield so that everyone knows the site is protected.
