The Waterfront Promenade
The promenade between Gustafsberg and Uddevalla was a success from the beginning, in 2006, where people swarm on a summer day. A walk, winding between small bays and Bohuslän cliffs, some of which consist of a 550 meter long wooden bridge. Along the way there are information boards about the water life in Byfjorden. If you are lucky you might see a swimming whale.
Uddevalla, with its spectacular wooden deck trail winding its way along the steep mountain walls at the sealine, is a proud city with a natural destination. The promenade, in particular the Svenskholmen-Skeppsviken-Gustafsberg-Lindesnäs section, is a dear treasure for Uddevalla residents. In 2009, it was recognised as Sweden’s most beautiful road and was awarded the Beautiful Roads Award by the National Road Administration.
A walk along the entire Strandpromenade is like a journey through Uddevalla’s history. From Skalbankarna, where Stone Age settlements and fossils from the last ice age are located, to the Regiment Park and Bohuslän Defence Museum at Bäveån, you pass a treasure chest of historical remains. Tureborg, named after Ture Malmgren’s castle, and the romantic home Villa Elfkullen gives a glimpse of past days.
The promenade will take you through the city centre, past the town church and Bohuslän museum, and then continue on the south side via Svenskholmen to Skeppsviken. Here you will be met by the spectacular wooden deck, anchored in the rock wall, and pass bathing areas such as Bodele and the open-air beach Landbadet. Gustafsberg, Sweden’s oldest seaside resort, brings back memories from a past era of seaside life.
After a short distance along the Byfjorden you reach Lindesnäs, where the beautiful summer villas from the late 1800s end the historic and scenic journey along the Strand Promenade in Uddevalla.
